I read Sci Fi and Mystery almost exclusively.  I rarely read "good" books or literature.   My general practice is to buy a bunch of books which are evenly divided more or less between the two genres then line them up on my bookshelf alternating between the two.  I then pick up the next in line, unless I change my mind.

Viehl, S.L.
Plague of Memory

6th in StarDoc series
I started this series with the 9th or there abouts, and have read the 1st, and 10th.  Main character Cherijo / Jarn is a human bioconstruct who cannot be killed.  In the first book (StarDoc), she runs away from home to be a doctor in a ER in a spaceport.  Cherijo is the original personality and in this book, she has "died" and been reborn as Jarn. This seems to be the first with Jarn rather than Cherijo. Having not read the intervening books, I am a bit confused, but the characters are likeable and the action is fun.  Space opera with medical emergencies.  In this book, there is a plague on the main enemy planet, and she saves the planet.

LeCarre, John
A Most Wanted Man
12/20/10
Middle East terrorism has replaced Soviet spys.  Reflects the frustration and ineptitude of dealing with modern
terrorism.

Harris, Charlaine
Grave Secret
12/21/10
4th in Harper Connelly series
Harper was hit by lightning and as a result can hear the dead.  She and her brother are using this talent to eke out a living.  In this book, we get a lot closer look at their family and upbringing.  Very enjoyable characters.

Lackey, Mercedes and James Mallory
The Phoenix Transformed
12//10
Book 3 in The Enduring Flame, second trilogy of Wild and High Magic world
Travel in circles around the desert to capture the demon.  Boys grow up and accept their calling.  The relationship between Tiercel and Harrier is fun to watch.

Grafton, Sue
U is for Undertow
12/25/10
Kinsey solves a cold case, and gets more involved with her family.

Shepherd, Mike
Kris Longknife: Undaunted
This is the 7th in this space opera series.  They are a lot of fun.  Reminicent of David Weber's Honor Harrington series and David Drake's Lt. Leary series.   Kris is a Navy Lieutenant and great granddaughter of the interplanetary system democratically elected King, thus also Princess Kristine.  Her entourage includes her maid Abby, who also doubles as body guard and spy; her official bodyguard, Jack Montoya; and her computer, Nelly.    This book adds a new character, 12 year old Cara, neice to maid Abby.  Nelly is influenced by association with Cara.  The enemy with whom they fought a bloody war contacts Kris's great grandfather for help.  A series I pick up when I want a real romp.
